Betty Jean Cain, 92, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 7, 1934, in Ellis, Kansas, to Jacob and Ella (Schumm) Massier.
Betty grew up in the Trego County area and attended country school through the eighth grade. On December 21, 1955, she was united in marriage to Frank "Bud" Cain. They shared 32 years of marriage until Bud's passing.
Betty worked for many years as a housekeeper at Logan County Hospital. She enjoyed knitting, playing bingo, and especially spending time with her family and attending family gatherings.
She is survived by her nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews. Bud and Betty also considered the Bates family of Oakley to be a very special and important part of their lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank "Bud" Cain; her parents, Jacob and Ella (Schumm) Massier; her sister, Iva Triplett; her parents-in-law, Frank and Twyla Cain; her brother-in-law, Gene Triplett; her nephew, Rick Triplett; and her niece, Penny Anderson.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Keeney Village and may be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 N. 12th Street, WaKeeney, KS 67672.
