Strecker

Bernard "Barney" Dale Strecker, of WaKeeney, KS, passed away, and was found at his residence on March 18, 2025. Barney was born in Kimball, Nebraska, on August 10, 1955. He graduated from Trego Community High School in 1973.
Barney had three daughters and one son from marriages to Patricia Dunn and Sarah Millirons. Throughout his life, he worked in a variety of trades, including meatpacking, construction, house painting, lawn care, and handyman services. He also spent many years as a roughneck in the oil fields. Barney had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, barbecuing, playing pool, and singing karaoke. A dedicated supporter of local sports, especially high school football and basketball, he was famous for enthusiastically shouting "GIT'R-DONE!!!", earning recognition as an outstanding fan on multiple occasions.
Barney is survived by his daughters Trudi Ramsey of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Leona Bahr of Larned, Kansas; his son Louie Strecker of Easton, Pennsylvania; and his grandchildren Kayla Melton, Bryanna Messer, Jacob Bradshaw, Ian Strecker, Evan Strecker, Owen Strecker, Alex Strecker, Xavier Johnson, and Isaac Gibson. He is also survived by his brother Don Strecker of Alma, Nebraska, and his beloved dachshund, Rambo.
A proud American patriot, Barney was deeply committed to freedom and the values he held dear. He was a lifelong fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd and cherished time spent outdoors and with family, which was of utmost importance to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Louise (Zahn) Strecker; his daughter, Zahnadu Strecker; and his grandparents, Otto and Ruth (Kilpatrick) Zahn of WaKeeney, Kansas, and Jacob and Martha (Foos) Strecker of Russell, Kansas.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Bernard Strecker Memorial Fund. Donations may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 N 12th St., WaKeeney, KS 67672.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 26 at 10:30 a.m. at WaKeeney Church of God, 1300 Easter Ave, WaKeeney, KS, with burial to follow.
