Anna Martin was born September 24, 1925 in Park, KS, the daughter of Raymond and Katherine (Zerr) Haffner. She passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009 in the Hays Medical Center at the age of 84.


As a child she attended a rural country school.


On May 18, 1943, Anna was united in marriage to Marcus Martin in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Park. She and Marcus farmed in Sheridan County until retiring in 1996. Marcus passed away October 21, 2006.


Anna was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the Altar Society, both of Collyer and Daughters of Isabella in Park. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and going to garage sales. Anna was best known at the LTC for her knitting, cinnamon rolls and sour cream chocolate cake.


Survivors include a son, William D. of Merriam; a daughter, Elaine Nedbalek of Hamilton; fifteen grandchildren, Troy Nedbalek, Renee Carter, Dedee Novak, Marc Martin, Shannon Schmidt, Suzanne Stermer, Stephanie Jerauld, Chuck, Tyler, Christian, Michelle, Ashley, Joee, Eric and Melva; thirteen great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and three sisters, Josey Friend of Dallas, TX, Theresa Pfannenstiel of NE, Barbara Fahey and husband, Herbert, of Denver, CO; and a daughter-in-law, Laurie Martin.


Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus; two sons, Harold Lee and Kenneth Martin; two brothers, Anthony and Joseph Haffner; and two sisters, Doris Wildeman and Ludy Zimmerman.


Services for Anna will be held Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Park, KS with Father James Thomas officiating. Inurnment is in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation is from 6-8 PM Tuesday at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter, KS.
