Obituary

Lifelong area resident, Anna Rose Geist, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney. She was 98 years of age.

Anna was born in rural Ellis County, on July 21, 1915, the daughter of Ignatz and Elizabeth (Weber) Flax. She lived on the family farm in Graham County for a good portion of her life. On October 20, 1936, Anna was united in marriage to Adam Geist at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. They enjoyed nearly 63 years of marriage together, until Adam's death on October 9, 1999. Anna was a proud homemaker and farmwife. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was also a member of the Ellis Daughters of Isabella. She was known for her talent in the kitchen as a great cook. She enjoyed doing embroidery, gardening and canning. Anna always looked forward to a visit from any of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She cherished time spent with them.

Survivors include five children Delores and husband Rex Kerbaugh of Hill City, Elaine Werth of WaKeeney, Frieda Werth of Wichita, Donald and wife Janet, and Norman and wife Roxie, both of WaKeeney; two sisters Regina Schuster of Ellis and Bertha Riedel of WaKeeney; twenty-six grandchildren; fifty-six great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; infant daughter Mary Ann; daughter Janet Sporing; son-in-law Edwin J. Werth; four sisters Katie Dinkel, Rosie Berens, Mary Schuster, and Ida Mae Windholz; an infant brother; grandson Bernard Kerbaugh; and twin great-great-grandsons Kris and Coby Boyer.

A mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Christ the King Catholic Church of WaKeeney with Father Charles Steier as Celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a parish vigil service immediately following, both at the funeral home.
