Obituary

Anna Moden Baker passed away on April 13, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer in San Antonio, TX.

Anna Lucille Moden was born on April 23, 1927 to Walter Lawrence and Ethel Jennie (Carpenter) Moden in WaKeeney, Kansas. She graduated from Trego Community High school and later attended Strickler's Business College and Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. Anna was an active member of the Alpha Phi sorority at Washburn and represented the sorority as a Homecoming queen candidate in 1947. While attending Washburn, Anna met her future husband Joe Gayle Baker. They were married on June 5, 1948 in WaKeeney, Kansas. Upon getting married, Turner, Kansas became their home for the next 60 years where Anna was employed in various positions in the community. She was active in work, her children's school, church and community activities. Upon retirement Joe and Anna moved to Pharr, Texas where golf and bridge became their favorite pastimes.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ethel Moden, husband Joe Baker, son Wade Baker, sisters Vera Cooper, Mija Rorabaugh and Elene Wagner and brothers John, Walter and Ernie Moden. She is survived by a son Dr. Jay Baker and wife Dr. Cynthia Baker of Ozark, MO, a daughter Joanna Grogan and husband Pat Grogan of San Antonio, TX; two sisters, Vesta Pratt, Greeley, CO., and Emily Richards, Matthews, NC., and grandchildren; Becky Dailey and husband Capt. Klint Dailey of Harker Heights, TX, Joshua Baker and wife Lala Baker of Ozark, MO, Jennifer Hornick and husband Neil Hornick of Ozark, MO, Matt Grogan and wife Maggie Grogan of San Antonio, TX; great grandchildren, Lillian Dailey, Brynn Dailey, Jackson Dailey, Cora Dailey, Samuel Dailey, Gage Hornick, Brogan Hornick, Skylar Hornick, Jayden Baker, Kai Baker, and Whitley Grogan.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m, Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. Burial will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery, WaKeeney, KS.

There will be no visitation as cremation was chosen.
