Alvin Mader, age 94, of Quinter, KS passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at his home in rural Sheridan County. Alvin was born in rural Sheridan County on July 30, 1926, to Martin and Mary (Basgall) Mader.
Alvin attended Riverside School where he completed the 8th grade. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946. Alvin was united in marriage to Esther Kinderknecht on April 24, 1950, they were happily married for 69 years. Alvin learned about hard work and life growing up on a farm with a big family. After he was married, farm and family remained at the center of his life. He enjoyed gardening, planting fruit trees, doing things with his family; fishing, riding horses, playing cards, and working with them on the farm. Later in life, he enjoyed visiting his married children and traveling with them.
Alvin is survived by his children, Rodger Mader (Barb) of Hoxie, KS, Kirby Mader (Rita) of Quinter, KS, Dennis Mader (Edna) of Collyer, KS, Deb Balluch (Randy) of WaKeeney, KS, Janice Porter (Bob) of Derby, KS, and Greg Mader (Becky) of Quinter, KS; 24 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; sisters Lillian McDermitty of Denver, CO and Esther Befort (Jim) of Broomfield, CO.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 3 brothers, Ray, Sylvanius, and Herbert; 5 sisters, Mary, Hilda, Armella, Josie, and Angie; grandchild Brian; and one great-grandchild Gabriel.
Alvin was a good man and neighbor. He was faithful to his God, family, and community. He lived and loved simply and strongly; he will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter, with a vigil service to follow.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Collyer, Kansas, with burial to follow at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Masses or St. Michael Cemetery Fund. Donations may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 Main St. Quinter, Kansas, 67752.
