Obituary

Alma Maude "Maudie" Smith was born on January 29, 1918 in rural Sheridan County on the family farm to the late Nicholas F. and Ola T. Halferty McWilliams. She passed away at the Gove County Medical Center on
May 9, 2012 at the age of 94.

On her 10th birthday she was baptized in the Simon family stock tank. When Alma Maude was 15 she became a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where she served faithfully and actively as pianist and organist for over 70 years. She also taught Sunday School, VBS, and helped with Awana's for many years.

On June 4, 1943 she was united in marriage to
Albert F. "Curly" Smith. He preceded her in death on
December 23, 1976, after 33 years of marriage.

Throughout her life she was an accomplished musician and enjoyed being around and entertaining people. She attended Square Top Grade School and graduated from Hoxie High School. She attended Ottawa University and Fort Hays State University and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Education in 1943. She worked eleven years as the Activity Director and Social Services Designee at the Gove County Long Term Care in Quinter, KS.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharee Quellhorst, Albany, OR; two sons, Stan Smith and wife Deb, Steve Smith and wife Marcheta, both of Quinter. Seven grandchildren, Janis Hoby, Jill Flanigan, Joy Huddleston,
Brandon Smith, Steven Smith, Chance Smith, and Kassie Wilson. Seven great-grandchildren, Nicole Hoby, Brooke Hoby, Michael Flanigan, Cameron Flanigan, Keely
Huddleston, Colby Huddleston, Dru Huddleston, and one brother Don McWilliams of Quinter.

Three brothers, Robert McWilliams, David
McWilliams, and Harold McWilliams; two sisters, Esther Sapp and Mabel Popp preceded her in death.

Service will be 10:30 AM Monday, May 14, 2012, at Mt Pleasant Baptist Church in Studley, KS.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, May 13, 2012, at the Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter, KS.

Memorials are suggested to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and Gove County Medical Center-Long Term Care and are in care of Schmitt Funeral Home 901 S. Main Quinter KS 67752
