Park resident, Alfred Waldman, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Gove County Medical Center in Quinter. He was 74 years of age. Alfred was born on the family farm in Gove County on June 5, 1938, the son of Nicholas and Josephine (Herzog) Waldman.

Upon graduation from high school, Alfred went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army. On April 3, 1961, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Catherine Kinderknecht in Park, Kansas. They were happily married for 44 years until JoAnn's death on August 27, 2005. Alfred enjoyed farming and raising cattle, but he also enjoyed taking time to go fishing or attend a KU Jayhawks basketball game. He was an avid KU Jayhawks fan. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Park.

Alfred will be dearly missed by many friends and family, including: a son Kenny Waldman of Salina; three daughters Sharee (David) Perez of Littleton, Colorado, Connie (Brent) Menges of Colby, and Jackie Waldman of Hoxie; one sister Patty (Vern) Younger of Columbus, Nebraska; three grandchildren Nickolas Perez, Brittney Menges, and Bailey Menges. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a sister Carol Billinger.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Park with Fr. Kevin Weber as celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by the American Legion.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter. A parish vigil service will be held at 7 p.m., also at the funeral home.
