Maxine Richards was born December 1, 1927, in Quinter, KS, to the late William W. and Sarah (Simon) Brown. She passed away, Tuesday, January 17, 2012, in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney at the age of 84.

She graduated from Hoxie High School. On October 8, 1946, Maxine was united in marriage to Harvey E. Richards, Jr. They lived in Hoxie until moving to WaKeeney in 1957.

Maxine worked as the ‘candy lady’ at Duckwall’s and then as a clerk for Boogaarts where she retired in 1993.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Senior Citizen’s Center, the Randall Reid VFW Post #3449, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3774 Auxiliary, and the Stitch and Cackle Coffee Club, all in WaKeeney.

Those left to mourn her passing are her sons, John and wife, Phyllis, and Joe and wife, Kathy, all of WaKeeney; four grandchildren, Jennifer Bollig and husband, Craig, Sarah Maske and husband, James, Eric Richards and wife, Haley, Amanda Littlechild and husband, Eric; four great-grandchildren, Desireé Littlechild, Wyatt Littlechild, Payton Maske, and Harper Richards; and a brother Glen Brown and wife, Molly, of Hoxie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; an infant son, Billy Richards; and two brothers, Orville and Elbert Brown.

Visitation is 6-7:30 PM Friday at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney. Services are 10:30 AM on Saturday in the WaKeeney First United Methodist Church with a 3:00 PM burial in the Hoxie Cemetery at Hoxie, KS.
