Olga Lucile Schwartzkopf

Olga Lucile Dillinger Schwartzkopf was born Feb. 2, 1918, to T.C. and Amanda (Thompson) Dillinger. She was born in her parents’ home, a sod house, in Sherman County northwest of Brewster, KS. She was the seventh of nine children.

Olga attended rural New Hope School and graduated from Brewster Consolidated High School in 1936. She taught three years at the Mayer District rural one room schoolhouse and one year in the Baird District rural school. She attended Fort Hays State College, two summers and one year.

Olga married Earl G. Schwartzkopf on August 6, 1941, at her parents’ farmhouse northwest of Brewster. To this union, six children were born: Olga Earline, Roselea Ruth, Roy Lynn, Herbert Glenn, David Benjamin, and Maribeth.

Their first home was Jetmore, KS, where Earl was principal of the grade school. Other residences were Lakin, Brownell, a summer at Hays for Earl to complete his MS degree, Luray, Weskan and Clayton. In 1958 they moved to Cedar Crest Farm northeast of Ransom and lived there thirty-four years before retiring to WaKeeney.

While at Ransom, Olga worked as a nurse aide and medical aide at the Ransom Long Term Care for over 20 years and served as UMC Sunday School teacher.

Olga was a member of the WaKeeney First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, past District Officer of United Methodist Women, Eastern Star Margaret Chapter #249, Tourist Club, and a past member of the WaKeeney Library Board.

Survivors include two daughters, Earline Fairbank, McPherson, and Maribeth Foster and husband Terry, Russell; son, Herbert Schwartzkopf, Ransom; son-in-law, Bob Bruner, Wichita; nine grandchildren, Tanya Gillig and husband Brian, Brian Fairbank and wife Kristin, Timothy Bruner, Matthew Bruner and wife Jill, Martha Mason, Diann Toll and husband Brett, Mickey Schwartzkopf and wife Melanie, Megan Ashlaw and husband Justin, and James Foster; ten great-grandchildren; and brother Dwight Dillinger of Hays.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl G. Schwartzkopf; her parents T.C. and Amanda (Thompson) Dillinger; step mother, Pearl Reed Dillinger; five sisters, Elna Buice, Oleta Snow, Clarice Blakely, Elva Craft and Alta Kerton; two brothers, Rev. Sidney C. Dillinger and Troy Dillinger; two infant sons, Roy Lynn and David Benjamin; a daughter, Roselea Bruner; and daughter-in-law, Lolita Schwartzkopf.

Visitation for Olga is 6-7:30 PM Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. Services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 2, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church at WaKeeney. Interment in the LaCrosse Cemetery, LaCrosse, KS at 2:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, TCLMH Endowment, or the Trego Manor and can be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 N 12th, WaKeeney, KS 67672.
